Welcome to Design System Cookbooks, an aspiring collection of the best design systems across the globe 🌍
As engineers (Costa & Nouman), we are used to follow recipes (blogposts, videos etc), to learn how to build things and find best practices.
While there are quite a few recipes online, they are scattered across the web, and it's hard to find the best ones, or the ones that resonates with the current Design System era.
This is the reason we started this project, to collect the best recipes, and help you build your own Design System.
Our goals are to:
- Create a curated, open source, Design System database. This will be a collection of the best Design Systems across the globe, with a focus on the ones that are open source. You can contribute also here.
- Create a platform for Design System recipes. We want the blog of this website to serve as a platform, where you can find the best handpicked Design System recipes, and learn how to build or improve your own Design System.
- Create a community of Design System enthusiasts. Establish a network of Design System enthusiasts for direct collaboration, practical advice sharing, and project feedback, encouraging hands-on learning and growth.
Some things about us 👇
I am Costa, currently working as an Engineering Lead for the Design System team at Neo4j.
Before Neo4j, I was building for 3 years VisualEyes, an AI design assistant, that helped more than 40.000 designers across the globe optimise their designs and take data driven decisions.
In this journey I met so many designers, product managers and engineers, talked through their needs and re-branding initiatives, and understood how companies can win big time by operationalizing design.
And I am Nouman, currently working as Engineering Manager for the Design System team at IKEA.
I started my professional career working with C/C++ in 2008 and switched to native iOS development in 2010. I have lived and worked in 5 countries in Asia, Middle East and Europe in product and service companies of all sizes.
I have a keen interest in scaling design and development in organisations. I am fascinated by how organisations can reduce cost, improve quality and deliver value faster at scale while avoiding bottle necks in processes. It is no surprise then to find me working on a design system and espouse virtues of being agile (pro #NoEstimates).
